1956 History Teacher Mr Peacock

Photo supplied by Colin Marr and notes below by Kemal Ghafur; both are 1951 pupils.

This is Mr Peacock who will be remembered by many scholars of the 1940s and 1950s. Mr Peacock took us for O level and A level history. He was working on a text book at the time and here he may well have been checking the proofs during an exam, or whilst we were writing. It was later published and was used by Alan Gardner, 1953 pupil, when he became a history teacher and taught in the late 1960s. Mr Peacock was not only a fine connoisseur of Georgian glass, but took a keen interest in running the Hobbies Exhibition annually. I submitted a Meccano vintage car and Roger Smedley an enormous stamp album.

Here we see Mr Eustance, Latin and R.E. teacher, grinning, in his element, centre stage, with a cigarette, and just the head of Bruce Rimmer far left, the tallest boy, with Ernest Piper nearer the train in the badged blazer.

Photo by Colin Hale, 1951 pupil

This is a duplicate of the first photo of this trip, and is probably a mistake when all these photos were copied in haste in December 2016. The intended photo may be found elsewhere and added during late 2019 and into 2020.

Photo possibly supplied by someone like Colin Marr, 1951 pupil, showing Colin Hale, 1951 pupil, with camera in hand, and Ernest Piper next, 1951 pupil.
